Insect eating for Ant and Dec's final task!

The class received a final email from Ant and Dec today. The email thanked all employees for their hard work this term. As a way of a reward, they had sent the class a special 'bushtucker trial' which included eating insects!

However, these were not ordinary insects, these were BBQ flavoured mealworms, salt and vinegar crickets and chocolate flavoured bugs.

All employees were told that is any of them dared to try one of the insects they would receive a gold or limited edition 'diamond' promotion.

To Mr Santy's surprise, almost every child tried atleast one of the bugs.

A special mention must go to Ben. As other employees were debating whether to go for a leg, or a wing, Ben gobbled his cricket up all in one!

Bill, in his new frock, has come to visit!

We have been reading a book by Anne Fine in class, called 'Bill's New Frock'.

It deals with issues and dilemmas faced by children in school and the different ways that boys and girls are treated.

On Wednesday we were lucky enough to have Bill turn up in his pink frock!

We had prepared questions for Bill to answer and we spent the morning asking him questions about how he felt waking up as a girl.

(Thanks to Henry and Evie!)

Our second task...

Ant and Dec's second task for all employees was to write a persuasive letter. In a video message to the class, Ant and Dec revealed that they believed sunshine was the best type of weather. Also, that they wished it was sunny and hot all year round.

Each employee was set the task of writing back to Ant and Dec, agreeing or disagreeing with their views. Employees needed to be persuasive and try to argue their point of view using a number of different strategies including the use of:

  • facts and figures
  • different sentence starters
  • rhetorical questions
  • paragraphs
  • exaggeration

Dear Ant and Dec,
I am against summer being all year round because I will miss my birthday. In fact most people said it would be horrible and it would mean no Easter eggs or Halloween or even Christmas.
Intelligent people like yourselves should go against because you would not be able to have snow ball fights because there will be no snow to make a snow ball or a snow man.
Another reason is you will get frustrated because you will be getting to hot. Also you will get sun burnt so you will have to spend lots of money on sun cream and sun hats.
Finally you will not be able to go ice skating because the ice will melt and snow equipment companies will die off. Another thing is some people get so hot they might collapse.
Do you really want summer all year round?
In conclusion I feel that about 50% of the people I know have chosen for summer but nothing will change my mind to go for summer.
Look forward to hearing from you

Dear Ant and Dec,
I am against having summer all year round. This is because nearly all of my family’s birthdays are not during the summer. We will also miss out all of the special occasions like Halloween, Easter etc. I positively went round the pupils in the school and 95% of the student’s said ”I don’t want summer all year round no way”.
I also asked all the parents of the school and 100% of them said” no way I cannot put up with my children complaining of the hot weather in the summer let alone all year round”.
Surely some intelligent person like you wouldn't like summer all year round. Also you would get sun burns so easily because it would always be hot and you would be spending your money on sun cream so you do not burn yourselves.

Finally you would not miss out on the hot summery weather because it would keep coming and going and sometimes you can get board of all the hot weather and you can sometimes if you get to hot you can get stressed and bothered.
Don’t listen to anyone else you should stick with me not summer all year round. Why would you ever want summer all year round? I look forward from hearing from you both

Dear Ant and Dec,
I am against summer because I wouldn't have my birthday and 90 % of the school have their birthday in Spring, Autumn and Winter.

Surely you know that if it is summer all year round we won’t have Christmas which means you won’t have turkey, presents, Christmas crackers and a Christmas tree.

An intelligent person like yourself should realise that if you have summer all year that you can’t make snowmen, you can’t have snowball fights and you can’t go sledding.

Finally you wouldn't have the winter Olympics so you wouldn't see the winter sports. Also you can’t go ice skating .

Some people might say that summer all year round is a good idea but do you really want people to be hot and bothered all year?
                              Yours sincerely

Dear Ant and Dec,
I am against summer all year round. Because if summer was all the time I will miss my birthday! and I’ll miss Christmas. People will get sun burnt and will have to buy a lot of sun cream plus will lose a lot of money.
Secondly I've asked ten people what is the best season and only one person said ”summer”. And global warming will get worst and polar bears will become extinct.
Finally more and more bush fires will happen and more animals like tigers will die.
I know some people think it is a good idea but don’t listen to them, listen to me! I look forward from hearing from you and Dec.
                               Yours sincerely

Our first task...

Ant and Dec's first task for all new employees was to create a television advert. Not any television advert, but one that advertised a new location for I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here.

All employees knew the features of advertisements and the persuasive techniques used to try to get companies to buy their product. These included:

  • A rhetorical question
  • Exaggeration
  • A slogan
  • Positive, persuasive words

The employees researched different countries in groups, ensuring they knew about the weather, types of activities, temperatures and any famous buildings for each country.

Check out some employees' adverts below:
